Making Progress
Posted 14 hours ago
Allyssa is comprehending things much better now. Sunday she got out of bed and sat in the chair in her room. She was not able to hold down her food on Sunday and Monday but she is much better today. She ate cherrios for breakfast and had some mashed potatoes and a roll for lunch. The doctors removed two of the three chest tubes. She is having a rough time emotionally right now because she is just now able to understand the trauma she has been through since the pump replacement on June 24.

Allyssa has been resting well the last few days. She is still has issues with the phycosis. She thinks her sister is her with her at times or she imagines other things are happpening. She thought she was at a theater yesterday watching a play. Suddenly she told us it was intermission and to go get her a cafe latte. Dad spent the night with her last night and she did not have any problems. They are removing the central catheters from the veins in her groin this morning. This will allow her to get up and start moving around. The plastic surgeon for her hand came in this morning and said the hand was progressing well. Until she gets over the phycosis we are having to sit with her around the clock in case she get disoriented or gets upset because she cannot comprehend where she is.

The doctors removed the ventilator yesterday at around 7:00 pm. She was still groggy from the medicine. Today she is more alert and she talked to mom and dad quite a bit at the 5:00 pm visit today. It was nice to hear her voice. She is currently having ICU phycosis from being sedated for so long. She thought Ashlee was hiding under her bed today and had the nurse continue to look for her. She told dad it was ok for him to leave the room and that the other people were going to leave also. The only problem was that the other people she pointed to was a stack of pillows in a chair. The good news is that this is not a serious problem and will go away with a little time off of the sedation. She is currently being moved out of the cardiovascular critical care unit to the cardiac ICU unit on the eighth floor. This is an indication of good progress.
